Reliable management of your pension capital
A considerable part of managing a pension fund involves the management of risks. A pension fund is unable to eliminate risks entirely, otherwise it would not be possible to make investments. And without the returns on investments a pension fund would not be able to allow your pension capital to grow sufficiently.
How do we ensure that we take risks in the most responsible way possible? An effective and reliable pension fund organisation is essential for this.

Visit the website to read more about the various risks, how these are managed and how this is monitored.

Risk appetite
The Board also takes into account the opinion of members when managing risks. What level of risk can the pension fund be exposed to with your pension capital? In other words: what is the risk appetite of members?
Because the members of Staples are comparable with the average pension fund member, the Board has used the results of a national risk appetite study.

In line with this study, the pension fund aims to keep the risk of a funding shortfall (funding ratio less than 100%) within 15 years below 10%. The risk that the funding ratio falls below 104% within three years has to be low.

Visit the website to read more about the funding ratio trend from 2015.

How secure is your pension?
You accrue pension or you receive a pension benefit from the pension fund. There are risks associated with the pension accrual.
For example, as a result of this it may not be possible for your pension to be increased (indexed) because the pension fund no longer has the funds to do so. If things go very bad with the fund, then it may even be necessary for your pension to be reduced.

We explain this in the Pension 1-2-3. Please see the heading 'How secure is your pension?'

Member survey completed
The pension fund conducted an online member study in September. Via e-mail or letter we invited a large group to express their opinion about the pension fund’s service and communication.
We wish to thank everyone who participated for their time and effort. As soon as the results are known and analysed, we will share that with you via the website and in this newsletter.

Pensioen3daagse
The annual, national Pensioen3daagse (Three-day Pension Event), an initiative of Wijzer in Geldzaken (the Money Wise Platform), will be held on the 30th of October and the 1st and 2nd of November. During these three days, various organisations from throughout the country will be paying extra attention to pensions.
What can you do during these three days?
  • On the Pensioen3daagse website you can find handy tools that provide you with insight into your pension.
  • You can view the pension you have accrued and the pension you aim to achieve 24 hours per day by logging on to My Staples Pension. You can explore all of the pension choices and immediately see what effect they have on the amount of your pension.
  • You can of course also discuss all of your pension questions with your pension fund.

If you still have questions, or if you wish to ask something else about your pension, then please send us an email via pensioenservice@pensioenfondsstaples.nl or call us on +31 20 426 63 20.

About Pensioenfonds Staples

Staples Pension Fund administers the pension scheme for the employees of Staples and its affiliated companies that were participating in the fund’s pension scheme before 1 January 2015. The Fund aims to be a sustainable and reliable pension fund for all stakeholders and to this end the Board has adopted a sound financial policy and checks that agreements are compliant with legislation. The pension scheme does not just provide for your old age; if something happens to you, the pension scheme provides for your partner as well. If you become incapacitated for work your pension scheme has a provision allowing you, under certain circumstances, to continue accruing pension entitlements.
